Step 1: From the Apple menu, select System Preferences.
Step 2: Click the Network icon.
Step 3: Click the arrow on the Show pop-up list and choose Internal Modem. Step 4: Click on the TCP/IP tab.
Step 5: Click the arrow on the Configure pop-up list and choose Using PPP. Step 6: Click on the PPP tab.
Step 7: In the Telephone Number field, enter your local access number, as well as the area code (if required), and any codes needed (such as *70, to turn off call waiting or 9 to reach an outside line). Step 8: In the Account Name field, type your e-mail address (as shown in the table below).
Step 9: In the Password field, type your password. Step 10: Check the box next to Save password. Step 11: Click the PPP Options button.
Step 12: Check the box next to Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications. Step 13: Uncheck the box next to Prompt to stay connected. Step 14: Uncheck the box next to Disconnect if idle. Step 15: Check the box next to Disconnect when user logs out. Step 16: Click the OK button. Step 17: Click on the Proxies tab.
Step 18: Uncheck all the boxes. Step 19: Click on the Modem tab.
Step 20: Click the arrow box on the Modem pop-up list and choose Apple Internal 56K Modem (v.90). Step 21: Click the Tone radio button in the Dialing area. Step 22: Check the box next to Show modem status in menu bar. Step 23: Click the Apply Now button. Step 24: Close the Network window. |
